At the meeting on 14 March, the Council made a decision regarding the future of Waitangi Hall.

We will now seek legal advice for any liabilities in terms of handing over the Hall in its current condition.

If the legal advice the Council receives is favourable, the community will be invited to submit an expression of interest for taking ownership of the building.

The expression of interest must include:

  • a legal structure/entity/trust for transferring the ownership of the hall (building, not land)
  • a business plan
  • a plan to upgrade the hall to a fully compliant standard
  • a financial plan to enable the upgrade, set-up costs, day-to-day management, and maintenance (including depreciation)
  • a timeline for implementation.

These will be due by 30 June 2024, however we will not receive EOIs until they have received legal advice. We will let you know once we have received legal advice.
