We carry out animal control functions on the Chatham Islands, including the control of stock on public roads, dogs and other domestic animals.
We are guided by the Dog Control Act 1996(external link), the Impounding Act 1995(external link) and the Chatham Islands Dog Control Bylaw 2022 [PDF, 2.7 MB]. The Council also has a Dog Control Policy [PDF, 742 KB] which provides guidance on how to apply the bylaw.
