Building consents are contracted out to another local authority; however, we are responsible for processing resource consents.
We can also provide Land Information Memorandums in relation to individual properties.
Building consents on the Chatham Islands are contracted out to Wellington City Council(external link); however, Environment Canterbury(external link) is the authority for large dams.
All building consent applications must be provided to the Chatham Islands Council, who will then forward these to Wellington City Council. The Chatham Islands Council provides administrative support.
The Resource Management Act 1991(external link) charges the Chatham Islands Council with the statutory function of processing and granting or declining resource consents, including certificates of compliance. The Council is responsible for regional, district and coastal functions.

Resource consent fees and charges increase in line with inflation, except where they are determined by Government or bylaw.

We can also provide Land Information Memorandums (LIM) in relation to individual properties.
The cost of a LIM is $238 or $342 under urgency.
We can also provide Project Information Memorandums (PIM) in relation to properties.
The cost of a PIM is $408 for a single residential unit or $490 for all other buildings.
