Last year scientist David Johnson visited Kaingaroa School and donated a Davis Weather Station. It is linked to the global weather forecasting system through the internet.
David and his team donated weather stations to Te One and Pitt Island schools as well. They have also donated a 'Raspberry Shake' for the schools, which measures earthquakes and is also linked to the global earthquake recording systems.
It's interesting for the scientists to get data from the Chatham Islands and really cool for the students and other locals to be involved and able to access up to date local information.
People can download the Davis WeatherLink App(external link) and have the local weather information and forecasts on their phones.
