A report on the Chatham Islands economy
Our submission on the low slope map for the Government’s stock exclusion regulations was successful.
The Chatham Islands have not been included in the map. This means that there is no blanket requirement for farmers on the Islands to exclude cattle from all waterways.
Stock exclusion will be dealt with either under the freshwater farm plan process if those plans are required on the islands, or through the next resource management plan developed under the National and Built Environments Act(external link).
Either way, it is a good result for the Chatham Islands farmers and means that stock exclusion can be dealt with in a way that is practical for the local situation.
