Roads are the Council’s largest spend with an average annual spend of $4,462,000.

This cost is funded by:

Roading rate $89,183
General income including Crown grant  $446,257
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency funding $3,926,560
Total $4,462,000

Waka Kotahi also known as NZTA, receives its funding from sources which include vehicle registrations, road user charges and petrol taxes.

To access Waka Kotahi funding the Council must employ suitably qualified engineers which it does under a contract with Stantec NZ Ltd.

All physical works must be awarded through a competitive tender process which currently has provided the services of Fulton Hogan Ltd.

The major projects over the next three years are:

  • Whangamoe bridge replacement: $1,256,000
  • Loading ramp facility at Owenga: $765,000
  • Kaingaroa village road improvement: $700,000
