The Chatham Islands Housing Partnership Trust (CIHPT) was formed in 2017 to assist with housing related needs on the Chatham Islands.

The partners in the Trust are Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust, Hokotehi Moriori Trust, Chatham Islands Council and Chatham Islands Enterprise Trust.

The CIHPT has received funding support from Te Puni Kokiri to offer shared equity housing on the Chatham Islands and financial education through the $orted Kainga Ora Program. The shared equity scheme provides equity in a house that is bought out over time by the households.

To participate in the proposed scheme, first-time homebuyers must complete the $orted Kainga Ora program, a financial literacy and capability course designed to help with budgeting and preparing for homeownership.

$orted Kainga Ora was developed by the Commission for Financial Capability and Te Puni Kokiri to support whanau to build their financial capability and be in a position to buy their own home.
