This year Chatham Islands residents will receive a rates calendar with a difference after an art competition involving all the Island’s school kids.
The 2018/19 Chatham Islands Council rates calendar will add a bit of colour to the mailboxes of residents this month. This year’s calendar features the art of 14 local pre-school and school children – a task the kids were more than happy to get involved with.
Council staff member Donna Reed visited schools on the Island, delivering new colouring pens from the Council in exchange for their wildlife-themed works of art.
A total of 65 creative interpretations of wildlife were received, making it a real challenge to choose only 14 for the calendar. However, the kids all received a new winter beanie for their efforts, and the top picks also received a cosy hoodie.
This special calendar not only features some fantastic art, but has also been printed on recycled paper for the first time – making it environmentally friendly as well as a great décor piece.
The Council would like to thank all the schools for their willingness to be involved, and would especially like to thank all the kids for their awesome drawings.
